Dan's work is eye catching, drawing you to each piece by capturing not only the beauty of the individual woods chosen, but designs that are a cross between contemporary and classic styles. Not too modern, not too traditional. Smooth flowing lines with a mixture of exotic and dramatic woods.

In 2006 he decided to focus on a style of furniture to present to the public. The results have been very encouraging. In 2007 he opened a gallery in the Pacific Northwest. In 2008 he decided to take his show on the road, touring the USA. Since then his work has been shown in California, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Pennsylvania, Virginia and New Jersey.

What kind of wood is this?

Quilted Maple-  “A type of maple in which the growth of the wood fibers is distorted, producing a beautiful wavy “quilted” look, often similar to ripples on water or water beads on a hard surface.”- I think its wild! The largest maple in North America, the big leaf maple is also one of the most dramatic. Its lumber ranges from bland to highly figured, with variations such as quilt and blister that can be quite intense! The basic wood color is similar to eastern maple species, but it is usually highly variegated, with streaks and swirls of other colors including a range of browns and blacks.

Lacewood- Sometimes called “silky oak or “spotted oak”. From Australia, this exotic wood is a perfect accent wood. It is hard, durable and its spots are permanent. Color varies from orange to browns. Awesome!

Peruvian Walnut- South American, FSC Certified and a beautiful accent wood. Deep reds and browns with black stripes. Similar to American Walnut but, in my opinion, more consistent in color and richness.

American Cherry-  Grown in the US, FSC Certified, this fruit wood produces some of the most beautiful colors and figuring. The consistency of grain and richness make this wood one of my favorites.

Artists Statement:

"I feel too much emphasis is placed on design alone in furniture making. The wood can be the key to an eye catching piece and there needs to be a balance of design and carefully selected, color matched and figure coordinated wood.
I’m one of those people that absolutely loves what I do! I’ve been working with wood since my teen years. Raised in Virginia, I had extensive exposure to old school carpentry and have a long history with antique restoring and repair. Through the past 30 + years, I’ve sharpened my carpentry skills. My pieces are all hand crafted using as few power tools as possible. I don’t have a big shop with big tools like a lot of shops do. I tool the wood by hand as much as I can.
For the past few years I’ve changed my life and am able to focus on my art. Making pieces while perfecting techniques and design. I’ve also been building replica pieces in the craftsman style.
